“HONEST – THE SITE IS READY FOR YOU”

How many times have we heard this phrase?  If we had a pound for every builder that assured us that his site was ready for his new barrier or gate, and it wasn’t, we would be millionaires.  With the amount of work still to complete on this site this barrier is going to get trashed before it even gets used.

It’s a good job then that Newgate carry all Heavy Duty Barrier replacement parts in stock for immediate availability.

The contact telephone number that this builder needs to book a service is 01636 700 172.

“ADDED SECURITY MEASURES”

This might be taking added security to a new level!“  Usually”, by installing a Newgate Challenger Traffic Barrier across your entrance this sorts out your traffic control problems.  If in doubt, just dump pallet loads of concrete slabs in and around the area!

Unfortunately, signage, lights, curtains etc. are available as standard Newgate barrier accessories, whereas concrete slabs must be obtained from your local D.I.Y. store.

If you really need greater security – check out our web site for Rising Kerbs/Road Blockers (www.newgate.uk.com ) -   They will deter and frighten away the bad guys.

“ENIGMA”

An interesting installation this one!  Three Newgate Heavy Duty Traffic Barriers recently installed at Aberdeen Harbour.

Puzzle No. 1   -           Were are the roads?
Puzzle No. 2  -           The poles go in three separate directions!
Puzzle No. 3  -           Are they to control road or sea traffic?

It would be interesting to see if the barrier would actually stop the ship from passing.

If you have an application where you want to control any form of vehicular traffic and you think the Newgate Heavy Duty Barrier can accommodate your needs, then please call us with your details on 01636 700 172

“NEWGATE’S ANSWER TO THE RECESSION”

Newgate transports it’s electric sliding gates all over the country using specialist vehicles fitted with Hiab cranes.  These vehicles are extremely versatile, but extremely expensive.   The answer – Build your own!

The builder of the one and only Newgate lorry wishes to remain anonymous, for obvious reasons.  However, he does confirm that the vehicle is motorised and
the crane also works.  The “load”, namely the Type 1 Sliding Gate, also moves.

Future Project – A New Factory!..................  I don’t think so, the first project was interesting, but beyond this it would be classed as being an “anorak”.  Hmmm!  Just think about it though – motorised Lego Traffic Barriers, Blockers, Turnstiles? – Maybe not.

For “real” barriers and gates contact Newgate on 01636 700 172 – For anything else – use your imagination.

A CONSCIENTIOUS GATE INSTALLER

This Newgate engineer is one of the “brave few”. Despite the cold, the snow, the early morning start (and late finish), he is on call to install Newgate’s gates and barriers 365 days of the year.

As a caring employer, you would have thought that we would have given him a warm
coat, nice winter boots and a shovel to dig out his van. Ah well, times are hard and we are in a recession!

If you want our Super Hero to visit your site to install your gate or barrier, give us
a call on 01636 700172. (PS. He likes the Summer months better).

“HOW TO MAKE SURE NO-ONE GETS OUT”

Well that’s determination for you!, Firstly, paint the words “NO EXIT” on your road – that’s got to work.  Secondly, install a Newgate manually operated rising arm traffic barrier across the roadway -guaranteed to work!  If all else fails, stick a load of road cones in the road for good measure.

Question: How do vehicles get into the car park?

If you need any “sensible” advice on planning your car park barrier application, call Negate on 01636 700 172

NEWGATE’S LATEST GATE DRIVE UNIT!

The boys in the Drawing Office were getting concerned that as we were now building bigger and bigger gates, would our usual range of motor/gearbox drive units be “man enough” to operate them.   “PLAN B” – Operate the gates via a big yellow digger!!  Plenty of horsepower available now.
Don’t panic boys, our standard drive units can handle these gates, with plenty of power in reserve.
Check out our drive unit details on our web set (www.newgate.uk.com ) whilst surfing.  Check out our special/customised gates too.  You might just be impressed.

NEWGATE’S AFTERSALES SERVICE

This is the reason why you should invest in Newgate’s after sales maintenance service!

If you don’t, your barrier could also be overrun with weeds, infested with spiders and
buried in goodness knows what.

Your barrier can be serviced and maintained for only a couple of hundred pounds per
year, and for this we can make it work ‘like a sewing machine’.

For details on our maintenance contracts, contact our Service Team on 01636 704000
or email them at service@newgate.uk.com

NEWGATE’S SAS TRAINED

For reasons of your personal safety we cannot inform you of the identity of this Newgate site engineer. We could tell you that he is trained to kill with his bare hands and that he can
jump out of an aircraft without a parachute.

What we can tell you is that he is fully Health & Safety conscious, he glows in
the dark, and he is not related to the “Stig”. For covert barrier and gate installations, this is your man. For road blocker and turnstile installations, there is no-one better.

For dating your sister – forget it.

SPOT THE PEDESTRIAN GATE

Yesterday, this was part of the perimeter of an oil depot. Today it looks as though a typhoon has hit it.
Somewhere amongst the debris is a Newgate (or what’s left of it) Pedestrian Swing Gate.
I know that Newgate are good, but miracle workers we are not. Yet! The client wanted this repaired and operational within 24 hours.

For quick deliveries on any of our barrier and gate range – call us on 01636 700172

AIR CONDITIONING AS AN OPTIONAL

Most modern motor vehicles are now fitted with Air-Con, ABS, Sat-Nav etc, as

standard. Unfortunately, traffic barrier manufacturers don’t follow the same trends.

When this customer wanted an air conditioning system fitted to his traffic barrier,

he took it upon himself to modify his barrier to suit! Granted, he is eco-friendly and has gone green, but I can’t see the aesthetics of the air-con catching on! For ‘proper’

barrier accessories check out our website at http://www.newgate.uk.com/

OH I DO LIKE TO BE BESIDE THE SEASIDE.♫

This is not your usual postcard picture, but these barriers are from Scarborough.

The pair of barriers, one each side of the bridge, control the pedestrian and boat
traffic into Scarborough Harbour. The North Sea coastal conditions have taken their toll on these barriers and they are in need of a slight re-fresh.

A couple of days at the seaside will see them right again.

For bridge or traffic control barriers, check out our website http://www.newgate.uk.com/

In the Wars

Spotted recently, this Newgate Heavy Duty Rising Arm Traffic Barrier is definitely in need of some love and attention.
It looks as though somebody has put a plaster on a bad case of dermatitis!
Never fear, new top covers are always kept in stock at Newgate and we can have this patient up and running again in no time.
For replacement parts, or even new barriers and gates, contact Newgate on 01636 700172 or check out our website www.newgate.uk.com.

The Lollipop Barrier

Traffic Barrier Accessories come in all forms, signs, lights, skirts, colours etc. But a lollipop! This is a new one even for us.
As a manufacturer Newgate can and will customise any of our products, whether it be a barrier, gate, road blocker or turnstile.
As long as it is practical, safe and cost effective to do so, the customer can generally have what he wants.
If you check out Newgate’s website http://www.newgate.uk.com/ you will see a selection of customised gates, specifically made to suit the individual client requirements.

Lets Twist Again

Some how I don’t think that this style of electric traffic barrier will catch on with the masses.
Clearly the barrier cabinet has had a good knock, but how do you bend it only inches from the bottom?

Regretably, even Newgate’s team of engineers would be struggling to straighten out the kinks in this barrier cabinet. Not to worry new cabinets are available “off the shelf” (not literally, because they are too heavy) and you can be up and running (not literally, because barriers cant run) in no time.

Barrier cabinets and many other barrier parts, available from Newgate Tel 01636 704000.

A Bit of a Mess

This traffic barrier has clearly had a bad day. Battered and bruised does not even come close to describing what as happened to the barrier cabinet. What I am concerned about is if the customer thinks that he can repair it using the surplus road signs next to it!!!
Don’t mess about, ring the girls in Newgate’s Service Department (Tel 01636 704000) and they will arrange for the next day despatch of a new cabinet “Simples”. For more infomation on Car Park Barriers check out our website. http://www.newgate.uk.com/pages/products/barriers.php

Road Rage

All the driver had to do was what the information sign told him - “enter the exit code”.

Oh no, too simple! So instead we bend the post and pull out the protection bollard. Not a big job for Newgates service engineers to put right, but it could have been avoided. A couple of hours on site and this traffic barrier installation will be up and running again and be as good as new.

Should your barrier be a victim of road rage – call the professionals for immediate support. Newgates service team are on 01636 704000.

Credit Crunch “DIY” Surgery

Even Newgate’s installation engineers are feeling the pinch in those difficult times.
“Geordie Glen” required emergency surgery on his appendix, but as conscientious as he is, he wanted to complete his traffic barrier installation first. A convenient pair of electrical wire cutters and ten minutes later – low and behold – all done. In these times of on-site health and safety procedures, Newgate establish a new benchmark!

Should you require a new traffic barrier, gate, blocker or turnstile or even emergency surgery don’t forget to call Newgate.

Education 2011 Standard

This would be highly amusing, if not for the fact that this electric rising arm traffic barrier was installed at a school! What is a “Pedestrins” anyway? Clearly, the person responsible for the road markings did not achieve a GCSE in English, well not at this school anyway.

For information on barriers and gates for school applications, check out our website http://www.newgate.uk.com/. Please do not call us for road markings!

What a Rack-it

Honest Boss, it was straight when I bolted it to the gate!! The trouble with sliding gates is that they have to run parallel and true. I think that this drive rack was installed for an electric sliding gate to operate in the Welsh Valleys.

If you want a “proper” electric sliding gate, check out newgate’s web site on http://www.newgate.uk.com/. They also do swing gates but not to operate around corners or up hill!

Scrapheap Challenge-Channel 4 – Sunday

This week’s challenge is to build a Rubber Band Powered Helicopter that can also go underwater.
This (surplus to requirements) Electric Traffic Barrier could be stripped down as the basis for our “Submacopter”. The Barriers Pulley and Gearbox are obviously part of the new driver. train. The balance weights can be used for ballast. The road cones for buoyancy but buggered if I can spot a rubber band. If you want to see how any of Newgates Barriers & Gates can be “modified” – check out our website @ http://www.newgate.uk.com/ for details.

Answers on a post card!

Newgate’s competition this week is Guess what I'm pretending to be today? Is it a 21st century witch on a broomstick? Is it an electric barrier that installs itself and tidies up afterwards? Was it a traffic barrier that now wants to be a storage cupboard for health and safety equipment? Any other suggestions? Newgate’s range of electric Rising Arm Car Park Barriers (This is not a Newgate Barrier by the way) come with many practical accessories, but road cones and sweeping brushes are not two of them!!

What in Earth !!!!

It was on the UK news recently a man was jailed for four and a half years for stealing a JCB digger and running riot through streets and demolishing grave stones in a cemetery.
Newgate has its own version of this. This manitou driver was clearly having a bad day when he tried to run over a Newgate “ Challenger” Rising Arm Barrier. Our electric barriers are usually very resilient to abuse and bad weather, but they are not crash rated.
Please do not try this at home, but instead check out our website for our complete range of Barriers, Gates and Road Blockers. www.newgate.uk.com

Battered and Bruised

This poor old Challenger Traffic Barrier has certainly seen better days and is looking very sorry for its self. The pole is bent, kinked and certainly no longer tubular. The bottom curtain is held on by goodness knows what? The stop discs are smashed and the cabinet lid is rusty.
This could now prove a costly repair, but it could have been avoided if the client had taken out a standard maintenance package out with Newgate.
For details of our after sales cover, visit our website http://www.newgate.uk.com/pages/repair.php or call our service staff on 01636 70400

C.S.I Miami

Scene of crime officers have been to this Royal Mail site and have identified where the body was found! Did the visitor use the walkway? Did the barrier commit the crime? It almost sounds like a quote from the Cluedo game.
The postman, murdered in the car park, by the traffic barrier!! (Beats the lead piping and Professor plum any day) Newgate will have to “stamp” their authority on this one and mend the “post” or barrier "first class".

Monday, 24 October 2011

Planking

You've all heard of the latest Internet craze of planking, well Newgate have started a new craze called leaning. It doesn't matter whether you are a complete traffic barrier or just an access reader post, start leaning today! Clearly both the barrier and the post have suffered vehicle impact damage but Newgate have the capacity to repair these straight away.

Barrier Locking Facilities with a Difference

Newgates range of Manual Rising Arm Traffic Barriers come complete with locking facilities as standard. This is usually via a 25mm diameter locking bolt at the pivot end of the Barrier.
However, a lockable tip support post is also available, also as a standard.
This client has invented his own locking tip support and has incorporated a bicycle lock, never thought of that!!
My only question is, has he left his keys in the lock, and was there a bike attached to it?
For all Barrier enquires talk to the experts http://www.newgate.uk.com/ for all bike lock enquires talk to Halfords or a good bike shop !

Blue Peter Barriers

The PVC drop down curtains fitted to the Challenger Barrier arms here are a standard Newgate accessory. However, the elasticated bandages tying up the tip support posts and infill panel are most definitely not a standard accessory.
Who fitted them and what purpose do they serve??
Customised and job specific infill panels are produced by Newgate all day and every day, to exact sizes, colours and shapes. They can be fitted to any of their range of barriers, gates, turnstiles and Road Blockers
Don’t do it on the cheap it doesn’t look good!!

Check out the Newgate website http://www.newgate.uk.com/ for further examples of our equipment, installations and testimonials, or see our web page Car Park Barriers for more information on barriers.

Trussed up like a Turkey!

Another tired Barrier, sadly neglected by its owner. If only the client had taken out a service contract with Newgate, then this automatic Challenger Barrier wouldn’t look so sorry for its self.
It’s clearly taped up, chipped and faded, even the barrier pole is missing. Yet, if properly maintained, the Challenger Barrier will last for years and will cover hundreds of thousands of operations. We have many instances on record of similar barriers achieving millions of operations!
You service your car regularly, so why not your barrier?
Ring Newgates maintenance department for details and a free quotation. 01636 704000

Too Tired

“Bless It” – This old Newgate Manual Barrier looks very tied and past its best. With Flakey and faded paint, goodness knows what is covering the pole, a bent tip support post and a limp strainer wire, it certainly has seen better days.
But with a bit of TLC this barrier will sit there and operate forever.
Failing that, new Barriers start from only £500!! A bargain.
Check out Newgate website www.newgate.uk.com.

Friday, 16 September 2011

The red pickup truck was spotted cruising the area and scoping for scrap. Notice how the aluminium (more value than steel) barrier pole has already gone, but at this stage the manual swing gates and guard rails are still installed. Manual Barriers and Electric Gates are fine for controlling traffic, but what do you install for the most determined of opportunists? See http://www.newgate.uk.com/

Caught on Camera

Not only has this lorry been caught on camera breaking this electric barrier, but it is also trying to sneak off with the evidence. BIG MISTAKE! If only they had put it in the back of this refuge wagon, then nobody would have been any the wiser. I wonder if it is classified as green or grey bin waste? For new Barriers or replacement parts, check out our website www.newgate.uk.com

Compact Rising Arm Barriers

How to get as many Barriers, access reader posts and poles into the smallest available road space possible! These specific “Stinger” Traffic Barriers were custom built for a particular aggregates company to meet their exact requirements. They include non standard finish reflective flashing, special access control and enclosures. If you have space constraints or need customised barriers, talk to Newgate.

Barrier Shapes!

Barriers come in all shapes and sizes, but what on earth is this? Clearly, it is not a "Traditional" Rising Arm Barrier, nor a gate, but it is some form of a Road Blocker. If you want a use for re-cycled supermarket shopping trolloes, then look no further. If you want one of these Road Blockers dont come to Newgate for one because we dont do them. However we do a great range of conventional Barrier and Gates, both electric and manual. Check our website http://www.newgate.uk.com/ for details

Demolition Derby

This electric sliding gate at a major supermarket chain store has sustained major impact damage from a vehicle (which one)? Although the gate is currently operational, it is very battered and bruised and is in need of some tender love and care. Newgates range of electric swing and sliding gates are built very substantially, but even we have a limit to the amount of damage they will endure. Check out examples of our range of gates on our website http://www.newgate.uk.com/

A Nice Little Installation

How a Traffic Barrier system should look if specified and installed correctly a pair of Newgate Challenger traffic Barriers, complete with High Bar (Top and Bottom) curtains, dual height access control readers and traffic lights.

The barriers even have two pairs of "cross beam" photo cell detectors for added safety.

Newgate can supply and install a complete installation including all foundations, traffic island and road crossing, all starting from a free site survey.

Check out the Newgate website http://www.newgate.uk.com/ for further examples of our equipment, installations and testimonials, or see our web page Car Park Barriers for more information on barriers.

Car Park Barriers - Not

A right mess or what! If I'm not mistaken, this barrier needs a new barrier pole and high bar curtain assembly.
How on earth did it get damaged (snapped) right up there? Clearly it will require a complete new arm let’s just hope no one was in the vicinity when it decided to part company with the drive cabinet.
Not to worry though a couple of hours and it will be as good as new again.
For other examples of high bar barriers, particularly for Airport applications check out our website http://www.newgate.uk.com/

O What a Tangled Web We Weave

This Heavy Duty Rising Arm Barrier seems to have had a close encounter with the adjacent fence. There will only be one loser if you insist on bashing your high bar curtain against a steel fence! Fortunately for this customer, replacement pole and curtain assemblies are readily available and this barrier will be up and running in no time. For further information on Newgates spares repairs and have after sale services contact us on (01636) 704000 or e-mail service@Newgate.uk.com

Drunk in Charge

I could be mistaken, but I dont think the sliding gate closing post was orignally installed at this angle!
It must have a good whack as its pulled its foundation bolts clear out of the ground. I'm just hoping that the Newgate van just around the corner is there to put the situation right, and is not there because it caused the damage.
A damaged post is one thing, but a damaged service van is another thing all together.

For more infromation on Sliding Gates refer to our website.

Clutter or Feng Shui?

How many bits and pieces can you bolt onto a sliding gate stanchion?
We count a prox switch, drive unit, two control panels, traffic lights and a CCTV camera. But don't worry there's still room for a couple of more parts if required.
It takes me back to my childhood, remember “Buckeroo” it would be amusing if the gate stopped sharply and everything shot off, fortunately Newgate products are very robust and reliable and don’t have that problem
For Sliding Gates or childhood toys! look at our website you'll never know what you might find http://www.newgate.uk.com/

Tuesday, 28 June 2011

"Well what do we have here?"

The installation looks as though it's been clubbing. The traffic light still looks as though it’s doing the “Hokey Cokey” and the access reading is halfway through "pass the parcel". The LED traffic light is impressive though, It wouldn't look out of place at the 1970s disco! Seriously though, this installation is missing an annual service contract (not every customer chooses to take one). Poorly maintained equipment will lead to operational problems. Email service@newgate.uk.com to set you maintenance up now or telephone 01636 704000 for more information.

Used and Abused

A Newgate heavy duty rising arm barrier recently involved in a collision with something considerably larger. It is remarkable that the cabinet (despite pole and cover damage) is still perfectly upright. It must have had a good old whack as the balance weight assembly is now at 30° from where it should be and even more impressively the output shaft attached to the weights is a bent 50 mm diameter steel bar!! I wonder what the front of the lorry looks like?

Monday, 6 June 2011

Clearly they Didn’t

The idea of having rising arm traffic barriers with stop signs and red white stripes is so that they can be seen by drivers of oncoming vehicles. If these accessories fail to catch your eye we can also fit LED boom lights, full or hall skirts and new LED traffic lights. Lights and sounders can also be fitted to Newgate’s range of Swing and sliding gates. Newgate’s range of Rising Kerb Barriers / Road Blockers are fitted with traffic lights as standard. Refer to our website www.newgate.uk.com for further details

Animal Barriers

I was fed up selling the same old Barrier accessories namely lights, curtains and stop signs etc. So I thought what about animal pictures! Which other barrier manufacturer would sell his traffic barriers with pictures of animals, in this case a crocodile (in a blue swimsuit!) on their poles. If it catches on we could talk to Butlins, Haven or Hoseseasons to see if we could smarten up their barriers. For details of our usual traffic barrier accessories view our website www.Newgate.uk.com

Wednesday, 18 May 2011

A barrier, not only designed to go up down but designed to go around corners as well.Probably not one of our better ideas but you never know it might catch on! Because Newgate design, manufacture and install their own barriers, gates and road blockers we can usually try to accommodate every clients wishes. Refer to our website http://www.newgate.uk.com/ for a selection of our standard and special products, if you have a ‘special’ requirement contact us at sales@newgate.uk.com you might be surprised at what we can do

Crashed Gate

Well, at least one of the two gate leaves on this electric swing gate installation looks ok!!
How on earth can you damage a gate like this?
Another day, another supermarket service yard and another damaged gate. We have a theory that supermarket lorry drivers don’t like vehicle gates very much and they are on a mission to kill as many as they can.
Perhaps they even put graphics on their trucks to prove their kills!

Two new push button consoles

Two new push button consoles for my clients existing electric traffic barriers.
My client, one of the biggest sports wear suppliers in the uk, has had a Challenger Barrier for over five years. According to him, and I quote ‘They have been faultless in operation and are up and down more time than a whores knickers’!
However, the big old heavy fingers of the security guard have taken their toll on the push button consoles. In over thirty years of selling barriers I have never seen one held together with cellotape before!! Must have run out of glue!
New (Heavy Duty) ones are being made, as we speak!!

Wednesday, 20 April 2011

This poor old barrier pole has had some stick. Not only has its "Stop" sign been smashed but look at the bend in it. I'm all into 'alternative' medicines (acupuncture, poultices, etc) but to pack an aluminium tube in rock salt will never straighten it in a million years! Sorry lads, but this time you will have to ring Newgate’s Service Department (Tel 01636 704000) and speak to the team nicely about a replacement. Don’t forget the barriers accessories, (Striped Pole, Stop Signs & Boom Lights)

Thursday, 7 April 2011

I've Seen It All Now!

Barrier foundation blocks are usually a mass of concrete cast in at ground level. This stone clad obelisk complete with water feature & two tone colour scheme beats the lot. I'm also scratching my head to understand what type of vehicle this traffic barrier intends to stop!
Unless you have a car transporter sat on the back of an arctic, anything could drive under this barrier pole!
For special height restriction barriers check out our website at www.newgate.uk.com. We can’t always promise you one this ornate.

Caught Red Handed!

“Honest Guvnor it had nothing to do with me, i'm innocent”
If anybody was ever caught “Banged to Rights” it must have been this guy.
To break the barrier is one thing, but then to try and sneak it onto your lorry to lose the evidence is another thing.
Newgate Traffic Barriers are good, but if you are determined to break them and then steal them, that’s another thing entirely.
Next time we will install a road blocker, and then we will see who wins and loses!!
